August: The Quiet Month with Powerful Potential
My daughter and I were recently talking about how August just feels... odd. There are no big holidays, not much buzz or excitement, and it sits in that strange space between seasons—summer winding down, fall not quite here. In many ways, it feels like a transitional pause.
But maybe that’s exactly the gift August brings.
On the calendar, August is the 8th month of the year. In biblical symbolism, the number 8 represents new beginnings, resurrection, and regeneration. It comes right after 7, which signifies completion. That perspective reframes August not as a lull, but as a chance to reset and begin again.
So here’s something to consider as you move through this month:
Is there something you’ve been putting off?
What’s still lingering on your summer bucket list?
Are there people you’ve been meaning to call or reconnect with?
Have you taken any time to unplug, recharge, and reflect?
If any of these questions stir something in you, then August might be your moment.
Take out your journal. Capture your thoughts, your hopes, and your intentions. Don’t just think about what you want to do—write it down. Make a simple plan. And most importantly, start. You don’t need to wait for a new year or a perfect moment to begin again.
Life has reminded us again and again that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. That makes today a gift—and a powerful opportunity to focus on what matters most.
For me, that always starts with time spent with the people I love.
What about you? What will your August hold?
